I am a proud wife and stepmother of three–two daughters and a son– who are into early adulthood and showing every sign of it! While our children are now older, we still realize that we are continually parenting, no matter the age of the child.
Considering the increasing prevalence of nontraditional families, step-parenting is becoming quite conventional. According to the National Stepfamily Resource Center, about 65% of remarriages involve children from a prior marriage. Moreover, one of every three Americans is a step-parent, a stepchild, a stepsibling, or some other member of a stepfamily. Stepfamily.org reports that 1300 new stepfamilies are forming everyday. In essence, if we are not part of a stepfamily ourselves, we know someone who is. At the very least we all have heard the tale of Cinderella and her wicked stepmother!
